Traditional Residential Sewer Line Repair Methods Versus Trenchless Methods

In the past, any issue with one’s home or business would need to be solved by digging up the entire line of piping. First, the pipeline would need to be visually inspected to discover the exact location and cause of any leak or sewage backup. If the problem area wasn’t evident or the damage was more extensive than expected, then the entire line might be dug up before any repair work could be done. This would destroy whole yards and any structures, such as shrubbery and pavement, that might be located over the sewer line. The repair itself was then a long process of removing and replacing the pipes. After weeks of work and a lot of expense, the yard would be filled in and the repair complete.

The earliest form of trenchless repair was slip lining, a process where a smaller pipe was inserted into the original pipe and sealed on the edges. This effectively restores the pipeline’s integrity and requires minimal digging, but not all repairs require the entire length of pipe to be resurfaced and slip lining has the drawback of reducing the pipe’s diameter.

At Next Level, we prefer the more recent innovation of cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining. Our skilled engineers and highly trained technicians are experts at repairing your sewer line without the need to dig through floors and yards on your residential property. We specialize in pipe lining, a minimally invasive technique that is an effective repair method for indoor pipes, vent stacks, and water main lines.

How The Trenchless Sewer Pipe Repair Process Works

Trenchless repair begins with a sewer camera inspection. We insert a high-quality camera into your pipeline to find the exact cause and location of the issue. Next, we use hydro jetting to completely clean the pipes. The hydro jetter directs pressurized water through the line using a specialized nozzle, descaling and removing greasy buildup. Issues such as a backed-up sewer line, recurring blockage, or the beginning of corrosion may be solved with a quick but thorough cleaning. Finally, we insert a liner that adheres to the existing pipes to seal damage and create a brand-new pipe without having to remove the old.

CIPP lining uses a flexible fiber tube coated in an epoxy resin to reline the inside of a damaged pipe. This is normally done using the inversion method, which may require no digging, or the pull-in-place (PIP) method in which a small opening is created on either side of the repair site and the epoxy liner is pulled to the appropriate location. The liner is pressurized to it inflates and adheres to the walls of the old pipe, then heat is applied to cure the epoxy and harden the lining. The engineers at Next Level will leave your sewer pipeline in like-new condition, increasing water flow and reducing the risk of leaks with a seamless, smooth new pipe.
